Revitalizing Education and Building Peace in Post Conflict and Flood Affected Swat Valley

This three-year initiative focused on implementing three priorities: restoring trust in government institutions, especially the education system; promoting social cohesion as a vehicle for peace-building; and applying Disaster Risk Reduction standards in school construction and educational programs.

Objectives:

  • Revitalize the education system of 42 government schools by rebuilt 2 and improving and renovating  40 permanent schools (of which  70  percent will be girls)   with estimated life of more than 20 years; and rehabilitation of WASH facilities,
     
  • Strengthen the capacity of school management systems for 42 PTAs through school communities/PTAs training and engaging them in the process of renovation, repair/improvement of schools and school management. Also conducting hygiene and sanitation awareness activities and session in targeted schools.

     
  • Improve the quality of learning for 5,600 students by providing teachers training to 280 school(of which 60% will be female)
     
  • Establish low cost peer support mechanism for continuous learning for teachers
     
  • Increase social cohesion through youth development among 42 schools and 4,200 households
     

Beneficiaries:

Direct:  5,600 students, 280 teachers, 42 PTAs (7-10 members each) and 3000 schools students ( ages 11-15) through sports events.
