Expanding Educational and Livelihood Resources in the Terai, with a specific focus on ICT and Youth

  • To provide access to educational resources, information and livelihoods to over 100,000 people in Terai through establishment/up gradation of 11 READ centers across 4 districts. Over 35,000 people will be directly impacted through using the centers and the provision of training on literacy, livelihoods, community engagement, health environments etc.
  • To improve education and the opportunities offered to 3000 youth through the provision of life skills trainings, sports clubs, academic and career support and health awareness. To provide at least 100 youth with in depth vocational skills training and an additional 175 youth with more general livelihood skills training; and to create a sustainable structure for youth engagement through the formation of 11 youth leadership clubs that focus on the needs of youth throughout the community.
  • To create more sustainable, impactful ICT facilities through the deployment of lower energy consumption hardware and alternative sources of power and to develop a formal ICT program that uses technology to provide access to information, facilities communication among families and communities, and enhances education for youth.

In partnership with Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation, ROTA through this project intends to expand education and Livelihood resources for communities in general and for youth in particular in 4 districts of Nepal. With special focus on ICT skills, the project aims to establish and upgrade 11 community centers which will create educational, social and economic opportunities for communities through community engagement. The project also aims to develop leadership skills among youth and prepare them for potential economic and social challenges. In order to ensure continuity of learning process, the initiative will also deploy lower energy hardware and alternative sources of energy to meet the power shortages in the marginalized areas of Nepal.
