Education Above All Honours 432 Students For Completing Their iEARN-Qatar Projects

  • Programme establishes online and face-to-face connections amongst schools in Qatar and 140 countries

 

Doha, April 24, 2017: Education Above All (EAA) foundation, through its programme Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) held the largest annual International Education and Resource Network iEARN-Qatar 2017 Open House, on Monday the 24th of April, at Education City’s Student Center, to give students and teachers the chance to display their work and achievements and showcase their iEARN projects for the 2016-2017 school year.

The International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) is a non-profit organisation that connects schools and youth organisations worldwide via an online network to empower young people, and encourage collaboration and dialogue to find solutions for global issues and promote intercultural exchange and tolerance.  Since ROTA started the iEARN-Qatar programme in 2008, and through its partnership with the National Center for Educator Development in 2014, 738 teachers from 116 schools in Qatar have been trained through the programme. The iEARN-Qatar programme trains teachers on Project Based Learning methodologies, and facilitates them to implement projects with their students while collaborating online with their peers from around the world.  

This year, 18 schools and 432 students from across the country took part, and successfully completed their iEARN-Qatar projects. Participants were asked to implement projects related to their school curriculum, reflecting different subject areas and grade levels.  The schools were; Pakistan International School Qatar, Al Mahad International School, Cardiff International School,  Al Saliyah Independent Secondary School for Girls, Ruqaya Preparatory Girls School, Umm Al Qora Independent Model School for  Boys, Iqra English School for Boys, Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Independent Preparatory School for Boys, Michael E. DeBakey High School, Al Wafa Model Boys School, Halima Al Sadia Independent Primary Girls School, Al Markhyia Primary Independent Girls School, Ibn Sina Model Independent School, Abdullah Bin Rawahah Primary School for Boys, Doha Preparatory Independent School for Boys, and Maria Al-Qibtiyya Preparatory Independent School for Girls.

Addressing participants during the event, Mohammed Al Naama, Senior Fundraising Representative at Reach Out To Asia , said: “The outstanding work displayed today by all students and teachers affirms our belief that team work enhances creativity.

Young students and their teachers have effectively combined ideas and efforts and completed so many interesting projects. Through iEARN Qatar, and since its inception in 2008, educators have gained awareness about the benefits of using project-based learning as a tool to improve their students’ academic achievement.”

Centered on the Project Based Learning methodology, the iEARN-Qatar programme aims to facilitate collaboration amongst schools in Qatar and the 140 countries involved in iEARN International, promote intercultural exchange and tolerance, and involve Qatar’s teachers and students in meaningful projects that aim to improve the health and welfare of the planet and its people.
