Enhancing its reputation as the region’s leading service learning provider for the youth, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) is hosting its latest Youth Service Club (RYSC) Leadership Training programme from Wednesday? 10th to Sunday 13th October, in partnership with Msheireb Properties.

Providing the platform for both new and existing RYSC members to develop their abilities and strengthen their voice to act as responsible national and global citizens, the four-day RYSC Leadership Training event is an experiential, reflective and interactive learning programme – in Arabic and English – for high school and university students aged 14 to 22.

For the first time, RYSC Leadership Training delegates will be divided into two groups, ensuring both new and existing RYSC members benefit from a programme focused on each group’s particular service learning needs.

Group A will introduce 40-50 new student RYSC members who were not previously involved with a RYSC to the opportunities of ROTA’s Youth Service Club programme and how it contributes to the youth development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Meanwhile, Group B caters for existing RYSC members as it focuses on developing the lessons learnt during the previous Leadership Training in February 2012. The Group B agenda focuses on promoting better understanding of the service learning process and learning how to undertake well researched and planned community service projects.

ROTA National programs Director Mohamed Abdullah Saleh said, “We are proud to once again host Leadership Training as part of ROTA’s goal to inspire Qatar’s next generation of youth leaders. Our Leadership Training creates an opportunity for new and existing RYSC members to become agents of change through their ROTA Youth Service Clubs.”

The intensive 4-day RYSC Leadership Training commences on Day 1 as participants take part in sessions on values and leadership. Day 2 will be an intense day covering service learning and project management. On Day 3, participants will be exposed to global issues such as the Millennium Development Goals and both groups join together for skills workshops relevant to the participants’ development in running their Youth Service Club projects.

“At Msheireb Properties, we have a range of programmes aimed at promoting opportunities for young Qataris, providing them the skills and confidence to excel in the workplace and as role models in the community. We’re excited to partner with ROTA Youth Leadership Programme and to have this opportunity to share our experience and best practices for the benefit of Qatar’s future leaders,” said Jawaher Al Khuzaei, Communications Manager of Msheireb Properties.

On Day 4 all participants get the chance to tour the Msheireb Enrichment Centre and discover how to use the environment as educational tools to reflect team building, leadership, competition, problem solving, risk management, empathy and cooperation. The floating museum is Msheireb Properties’ greatest knowledge sharing initiatives that serves as an educational portal, showcasing Qatar’s glorious past and soaring ambitions for the future.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Msheireb Properties aims to reach out students and inspire them by meaningfully engaging youth and inculcating in their minds the importance of building green equity. Msheireb Properties’ own youth guidance club, the Future Affiliates Club membership, offers school students and undergraduates a range of academic and professional guidance, including work experience and mentoring by company personnel, support with research projects, and career advice, as well as opportunities to take part in various events and competitions.

Following completion of Leadership Training, participants engage in a number of activities as they join an existing ROTA Youth Service Club or work to set up their own club.

After three years running Leadership Training, ROTA has successfully established a network of 15 extracurricular youth service clubs.

“Each ROTA Youth Service Club provides a unique opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills, gain understanding of international and community development issues, and gain practical experience in carrying out creative projects that address local and global issues,” says Mr. Mohamed Saleh.

The Msheireb Enrichment Centre, moored at Doha’s West Bay waterfront, serves as a civic space for the local community, hosting a variety of workshops, conferences, cultural events and exhibitions. Exhibiting historical photography and artefacts, the centre provides a window into Qatar’s rich heritage and cultural traditions, while also highlighting its ambitious future development plans Msheireb Downtown Doha, the large-scale regeneration of Doha’s downtown commercial area.
